Revive, Rejuvenate, & Relax in your Home Spa

Ahh.  It's time to replenish my soul and take care of my body.   Sometimes you just need to take care of you.   Self care is so important and often times it's last on the list when your running busy household and managing a business. I am trying to be as holistic as I can be these days, using natural ingredients more and more.  I like to have spa supplies handy.  After careful research and a little trial and error - I made a home spa collection to choose from when I need to Revive, Relax, or Rejuvenate.

Revive.  To me revival means detox and renewal.   When I have had a good night sleep or a deep meditation I feel revived and detoxed of emotional and mental garbage.   Of course cleaning up my diet makes me feel revived - to purge the toxins that I may have consumed...   For my bod, I like to start with a soak.   Taking a detox bath, not only boosts our health and well-being, but it also strengthens our immune system and can prevent disease.  This is my soak....   Ingredients are always on hand.

Detox Salt Soak

  • 1 cup Epsom Salt
  • 1/2 cup Sea Salt
  • 6 drops R.C.™
  • 2 teaspoons Dried Ginger

In a bowl I start with mixing the Epsom & Sea Salts.   Then I add & blend 6 drops of R.C.™ essential oil.   Finally I add the ground ginger.

R.C.™ Essential Oil is a powerful blend of Spruce, Cyprus, and three types of Eucalyptus oils.  It has an invigorating fresh scent which clears my sinuses and tightens my awareness.  R.C.™ in my bath wakes up my pores, and with the salts, aids in the detoxification process.  Ginger is a great detoxifier as well.   Ginger is know to make the body hot and open pores as well, letting out toxins.   Ginger baths are an ancient Chinese ritual - when people start to feel run down or cold-like symptoms, a ginger bath is recommended.

When drawing a detox bath I use water as hot as I can stand...  Ideally with a detox you want to really sweat out the toxins.  Once I have a couple inches of water in the tub I add my Revive blend.  It dissolves quickly enough for me to hop right in and get settled.  It is best to immerse yourself all the way up to your neck.   You want as much of you body submerged as you can.   I turn off the water and close my eyes. Breathing in the strong fresh eucalyptus scent of the R.C.™ oil, feeling and envisioning my pores opening and the toxins being pulled into the salty water.  I don't try to multi-task here.  No shaving.  No working on my heels.   Just utter relaxation and detox.   Stay as long as you can.   If you can find meditation here - that is great!    After the bath I rinse in a cool shower to eliminate any residue and to close my pores.   Once I am dressed I always follow up with hydration - chug some room temp water w lemon oil to restore what was lost in the bath.  This is such an important and simple practice.   Try it!

Rejuvenate.  No matter how much water I drink and how well I moisturize, I always feel like I have dry dead skin to slough off.   I formulated an easy sugar scrub that helps me rejuvenate my skin.   I keep a pot of this scrub in my shower to use on elbows and heels daily and everywhere else as needed.   It is so light that I can even use it on my face once a week.

Lemon Mint Sugar Scrub

  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons almond oil
  • 8 drops of Lemon oil
  • 4 drops of Peppermint oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried lemon peel

We aren't supposed to be eating refined sugar - but no one said I can't use it as a vehicle to exfoliate my skin!   I use almond oil because I like the consistency, but really any carrier oil will work for a scrub.   What do you have in the pantry?   Try it.    Lemon essential oil is a great detoxifier and has astringent qualities and peppermint essential oil is a muscle relaxer and has a fresh clean & invigorating scent.  Lemon peel adds grit, a fresh fragrance, and is supplemental to the essential oils.   Again - we have all these things in our tool kit - lets use them. This scrub is good in small batches  - I find when I try to double or triple it the scrub gets too watered down from me scooping repeatedly in the shower.   A batch this size lasts me about a month.

Relax.  Time to Veg.  Thats what I need.  There is nothing more soothing and calming than a milk bath enhanced with Lavender essential oil, oats and dried lavender.   I use this bath when I've had it and I am in need of a break from work, Scott, and the kids... when I just wanna be babied.

I joked the first time I made this recipe that the dried milk reminded me of Similac.   The Similac days were dark days for me... so the milk alone isn't soothing to me.   Each ingredient brings ints own relaxing properties.  Milk baths are moisturizing, the vitamin A, D, & E found in whole fat milk are eased into your skin with baking soda.  Oatmeal is also a skin soother...then you throw Lavender into the mix which is known to heal skin irritations and sooth the body and soul.

  • 1/2 cup whole fat dried milk
  • 2/3 cup Baking Soda
  • 1/4 cup ground oats
  • 6 drops of Lavender oil
  • 1/4 cup dried Lavender

I start with baking soda, then add milk, oats and lavender.  The last thing I add is lavender essential oil.   This recipe instantly comes alive when the EO is added.   Yum.

For this bath I don't draw it as hot...  warm is good.  In this one I really try to "set the scene" for myself.    I have been known to light a candle or two, play calming music that drowns out the sounds of my home and disallows me to make any mental lists or to worry.   As I pour the mixture into my bath I really try to let go of my external influences and allow myself to just zen out in my milk bath.  I leave this bath moisturized, relaxed and restored.

If you aren't relaxed after this professional help.  Maybe try a Xanax?  For me, 99% of the time this will do it.
